Green Party Candidate for Arlington County Board Endorsed by Peace Action

Arlington, VA (September 27)—Josh Ruebner, Green Party candidate for Arlington County Board, received his first endorsement today from Peace Action, the nation’s largest grassroots peace group.

Ruebner stated: “I am proud to receive the endorsement of Peace Action, an organization that has done tremendous work for close to 50 years to advance world peace and nuclear disarmament. Peace Action is also playing a critically important role advocating for an end to our country’s disastrous occupation of Iraq, a goal which I fully support.”

Ruebner’s platform calls for the Arlington County Board to pass a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. Ruebner also supports the establishment of a human rights contracting requirement for Arlington so that corporations that profit from war and human rights violations cannot do business with the county.

According to Ruebner, “As the host of the Pentagon, Arlington is affected by and has the obligation to speak out on foreign policy issues. We need to send a clear signal to the federal government that the continued occupation of Iraq is wrong and should be ended immediately.”
