Election Results Are In; More Than 10% of Arlingtonians Vote Green
Unofficial results from yesterday’s election are in and can be viewed by clicking here. According to the results, Josh received 3,253 votes from 31,511 people who went to polls, meaning that more than 10% of Arlingtonians voted Green yesterday!

One in Ten Arlingtonians Voted Green; Ruebner Doubles Support from 2006
November 7 (Arlington, VA)—More than 10% of Arlingtonians who went to the polls yesterday cast one of their two votes for Arlington County Board for Green Party candidate Josh Ruebner.
According to unofficial election results, Ruebner received 3,253 votes from 31,511 people who went to the polls, meaning that 10.3% of voters cast a ballot for the Green Party candidate.
Ruebner, who ran last year for Arlington County Board, received approximately 5% of the vote in 2006.
“Although I’m disappointed that I didn’t get elected, the fact that I more than doubled my support from last year is a positive indication that more Arlingtonians are agreeing with the Green Party on issues like development, gentrification, the environment, and transportation,” according to Ruebner.
“I congratulate Walter Tejada and Mary Hynes for winning the election for County Board. I also congratulate Mike McMenamin and Joe Warren for running strong campaigns. All of the candidates raised important issues on the campaign trail and I hope that the County Board listens to and incorporates the policy ideas of all three political parties to resolve some of the challenges facing our community,” Ruebner added.
Earlier this year, the Arlington Green Party collected petition signatures to place a referendum on the ballot in 2008 to establish a public housing and redevelopment authority in Arlington. Ruebner stated, “I look forward to working with the Green Party and affordable housing activists to pass next year’s referendum to establish a public housing authority. This is a critical policy tool to increase our stock of affordable housing.”

That’s the way the Arlington Green Party conducted politics in the days leading up to this week’s election. They held a “Get out the Vote” event at Busboys & Poets, a new café in Shirlington, on Sunday to help boost the candidacy of County Board hopeful Josh Ruebner.
Despite Ruebner being the only Green Party candidate on the ballot this year, the event drew an enthusiastic group of people who socialized among wine, hummus and political conversation.”
