McMenamin Won’t Make 3rd Run for County Board

Arlington Sun Gazette

Two times was enough for Republican County Board candidate Mike McMenamin, who says he will not seek the position this year.

McMenamin fell short in bids for the board against Democrat Chris Zimmerman in 2006 and, running as a ticket with Joe Warren, against Democrats Walter Tejada and Mary Hynes in 2007. Both races also featured Green Party candidate Josh Ruebner, who also will not be running this year.

Republicans have until early June to formally nominate a candidate for the seat currently held by Democratic County Board Vice Chairman Barbara Favola, who is seeking re-election. The Green Party and Independent Greens have candidates in the race.

McMenamin departed the political landscape with a familiar theme: that the dominance of Democrats at all levels of government in Arlington is unhealthy.

“It is my hope that Arlingtonians will come to realize the importance of having a diversity of opinion on their County Board,” McMenamin said. “Such diversity would only result in more meaningful and inclusive representation on the part of their elected officials. A one-party government is not constructive.”
