The filing deadline came and went with no additional candidates for County Board, leaving a field of three for the two seats open in the Nov. 8 general election.

Candidates had until 7 p.m. on Aug. 23 to file paperwork for County Board and other local races with the registrar’s office. There were no last-minute filings.

On the ballot on Election Day will be the two Democratic County Board incumbents – Walter Tejada and Vice Chairman Mary Hynes – along with Green Party challenger Audrey Clement.

Four years ago, Tejada and Hynes garnered the top vote totals in a five-candidate field that included two Republicans (Michael McMenamin and Joseph Warren) and a Green Party contender (Josh Ruebner).

Until nearly the last minute, county Republicans this year worked to find a suitable candidate or candidates, but ran out of time. This year will mark the third time in four election cycles that the local GOP has not fielded a County Board contender.

No last-minute candidates emerged for School Board or the four constitutional offices on the ballot: treasurer, commissioner of revenue, sheriff and commonwealth’s attorney.
